
Attikon University General Hospital, University of Athens (ATTIKON)
The Vascular Surgery Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, is located in Attikon Teaching Hospital. Attikon Teaching Hospital is the main hospital of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. It is a tertiary teaching hospital, and is considered one of the largest hospitals in Greece. It is located in Haidari, Attiki, on the western area of Athens. It is a general hospital, which covers almost all medical specialties. The Vascular Surgery Department consists the main Vascular Surgery Unit of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the largest University in Greece. It contains 34 beds, and more than 1000 operations are taking place annually. The Department has 9 unique outpatients clinics throughout the week. More than 5000 patients are examined in outpatients clinics annually. The Department covers the total spectrum of Vascular Surgery. The medical stuff of the Department is consisted of 7 specialist Vascular Surgeons, 6 Vascular Surgeons in training and a staff of 10 nurses. The Department is in close co-operation with the Department of Interventional Radiology. The Department has participated in various projects including Phase III clinical studies, multicentre randomized trials, experimental studies as well as various clinical trials
Role in PHOOTONICS: ATTIKON will 1) define and setup clinical requirements for the device, 2) setup and accredit the protocol for validating a clinical trial, 3) implement the clinical trial by recruitments of patients, 4) evaluation and assess the results from a medical point of view, 5) provide all necessary inputs and insights to improve the commercialization of the system and last but not least 6) support the dissemination the project results in the medical and health sector community. It should be noted that ATTIKON will comply with the EU regulations, regarding the clinical processes and tests.
